Ministry to Slums in Bangalore
As our team walked into the house in the
edge of Papanna Slum, Bangalore India we
were greeted with excited voices and
smiles from about 500 children. Hello
Uncle and Aunties they cried. We had a
great time telling the Bible Story of
David defeating Goliath and joining with
them in singing Christian songs. The
thing about these kids is that they live
in the slum area just up the street from
the house where they meet each day for
tutoring, encouragement, Bible Study and
prayer. Some even sleep on the floor
there because they no where else to go.
The slum itself is a maze of little
houses built together (the houses are
smaller than most storage buildings), no
running water, sometimes electricity.
The parents of these kids have many
problems, alcohol, drug addiction, lack
of work opportunities, and many other
things. However, some have accepted
Jesus in their life and are seeking ways
to deal with their problems thanks to
Suresh and Latha our partners in
ministry. They are teaching some of the
mothers and older sisters of these
children how to sew to help them to be
able to find work. Suresh and Latha have
also found a grant that enable them to
feed them a meal each day. We praise God
the grant was extended for another year.
What a joy it was to see these children
have a good meal served to them. Each of
them cleaned their plates and received
another portion. For many of these
children it is the only meal they will
have that day. On Sunday there were at
least 100 people in attendance for
worship and to hear the word of God
taught. As well as all the children that
attends Children’s Church each Sunday.
Suresh and Latha are servants of God
serving Him faithfully.
Ministry to the Villages
On Sunday afternoon we drove about three
and half hours to the small town of
Chittoor where we worked in nearby
villages. Glenn did a Pastor’s
Conference and Rita and Carol did a
Children’s Conference. There were 118
Pastors who attended the Pastor’s
Conference which was held for two days
in extremely hot weather. The need for a
Pastor’s school is great. The Children’s
Conference was also held for two days,
with children being brought in from
seven surrounding villages in farm
trucks and tractors with trailers. The
first day they had over 700 children and
the second day there was 1035 children.
It was amazing to see how well behaved
these children were and how they
responded to the love of Christ that was
shared with them. Ninety per cent were
from Hindu families. Carol and Rita
shared clearly the plan of Salvation
with many of these young people hearing
about Jesus for the first time. They
were also fed a meal on both days. It
was amazing how they fed all who were
there. The food was again a very good
meal of rice and chicken eaten with
their hands off of a plastic banana
leaf. Suresh and Latha want to establish
an ongoing ministry there and they have
been given ten acres of land for
ministry among these seven villages. For
them to effectively do ministry in the
villages and to keep the ministry
ongoing in Bangalore they have certain
needs. The greatest need right now is a
vehicle which would cost around
$20,000.00. Also, we would like to see a
building for a Pastor’s School and a
building for an orphanage as well as
other opportunities to share Christ with
those in these villages. The cost for
all this would be approximately
$75,000.00. If you would like to invest
in the lives of these children and
adults please call our office
(704-471-1150). Suresh and Latha are two
of the most committed God called people
I have met. They continually give of
themselves to share the love of Jesus
with others
